The accomplishments of Code for Science & Society’s programs and projects in 2021 demonstrate both our community’s resilience and our organization’s strength. Our global community continues to be challenged by COVID-19’s ongoing and tragic impact. In response to this, we see greater urgency and renewed investment in open source technologies, particularly those that enable access to and usability of research and data.
Open access to research and data — and the tools and practices to work with data — have never had more potential to positively impact lives. To realize that positive impact, however, technology must be coupled with culturally resonant investments in community capacity.
I’m proud of our work this past year as we focused our efforts to grow a unique portfolio of programs that support the power of people to envision, develop, and sustain initiatives that are the future of data and technology.
